Each new Standard DSL Plus, Business DSL, Business DSL Plus or Business T1 account gets 10MB of web space. Standard DSL Link does not come with web space.
If you elect to take advantage of the web space offered by Covad, your web address will be as follows: http://home.covad.net/~userID or http://home.covad.net/userID where userID is your My Covad Account log-in ID.
If you are using the complimentary covad.net web space provided by Covad, you cannot specify your web address.
If I decide to take advantage of the custom domain services, can I still get the personal web space as well?
Broadband customers are entitled to both custom domain services and personal Web space. The custom domain services require an additional monthly fee.
Covad only provides space for you to upload your content to Covad servers. We do not have the web development expertise to assist with the development of your web site. However, there are a variety of other companies that do provide these types of services.
Once you have decided on the content of your site, you will need to upload it to the Covad Web server. This must be done using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. Once you have installed the FTP software, just follow the instructions to upload your content to your covad.net web space. There are helpful screen shots for how to upload with FTP located in the Beginner section of the Online Support Center under Personal Web Space.
FTP or File Transfer Protocol is used to transfer files from one computer to another over the Internet. FTP is used to download from or upload to remote servers.
Yes, you need a client-side FTP program. One good place to visit to download a free FTP program is www.shareware.com. Under Search, simply type "FTP" and the site will list a number of downloadable software, including CuteFTP.
The Covad web server's address is home.covad.net.
