Standard DSL Plus Firware Upgrade Process
The following steps will walk you through identifying and upgrading the firmware on your ZyXEL Prestige 643 ADSL router.
Ensure your PC is connected to the ZyXEL Prestige 643 ADSL Router via an Ethernet cable and open your browser. Enter the router's IP address (192.168.1.1 is the default) in the address window of the browser and hit Enter. If you have changed the LAN IP address of your router, you will need to enter that address in the window and hit Enter.
Enter the user name and password for your router when prompted, and click ok. The default router user name is admin, and the default router password is admin. If you have changed your username and password, enter the correct information and click ok.
If you get an error message, and you do not know the user name and password for your router, click here for instructions on how to recover the password on your ZyXEL router.
Once the username and password is validated you should get to the Welcome Screen.
When you reach the ZyXEL Welcome Screen, click on Maintenance on the left side of the screen.
On the Maintenance screen, your router's firmware version number will be listed at the top of the page directly beneath "System Name". If you have anything other than ZyNOS F/W Version: V2.50(AY.3) 9/23/2002 or V2.50(AY.5) 3/11/2003, you will need to upgrade the router firmware.
If you have ZyNOS F/W Version: V2.50(AY.3) 9/23/2002 or V2.50(AY.5) 3/11/2003, you can proceed with the configuration of your ZyXEL router for multiple IP addresses.
The correct firmware version for the ZyXEL router can be obtained from the Software section of My Covad Account.
From the Software page, click on the Standard DSL Plus Firmware Upgrade link and when prompted save the file to a location on your computer. Make a note of the location as you will need to upload the file from this location to your ZyXEL router.
After the file has downloaded, disconnect everything from the router except the power connector and the Ethernet cable connecting your PC to the router. Go back to the Maintenance Menu in the ZyXEL web based configuration tool and click on 'F/W Upgrade' to proceed.
Browse to the location on your computer where you saved the file, select the file and then click on upload. The name of the file should be ZyXEL Firmware v250ay5d0.bin unless you named it something different.
You will get a confirmation page. You should allow 2 minutes for the router to complete the upgrade process. When complete, reboot the router by turning it OFF and then ON again. Once this process is complete your router should have the new firmware version. You can verify by going back to the Maintenance section of the ZyXEL web based configuration tool.
